Week 6

This week's research was a little bit more challenging as far as finding an open access journal in the English language. I found a ton of articles in Turkish and Spanish. However I found that when I switched search engines to the http:/oajse.com it was much easier to find articles in English. This week was important because I value my work and I'm quite sure other writer's do as well. Everyone wants credit for their work and I never question why plagiarism is important. When I was in my first year of college I thought plagiarism was just copying word for word, but now I see that its somebody's  words, ideas, thoughts, and writings.

Week 5

This week I had a much easier time researching than the first week of this class. Even before its over I feel like I am learning a lot and gaining knowledge each week. This week with empirical research it was a little harder because of the short writing and I felt I had to go through a lot of articles before finding the right one. Otherwise I feel I am doing well as far as the research part goes.

Week 4

This week the knowledge I gained was invaluable not only in this class, but in life and any other time I research any topic. Not only did I learn how to research and learn the proper key words to use, but also how to search for e books, how to download them, and how to order a book to be sent to me. The new strategies I used were Badke's research strategies to keyword search correctly as I would call it. For example the sheer symbols used when doing searching was a big help. There were no really big problems this week, however I feel as the class goes on I might run into some problems with trying to interpret and write conclusions. As week 6,7, and 8 approach I get excited because my topic is very interesting to me.

Week 2 Assignment 2 Blog Post

So far in my research I have learned a ton about the genetic factors involved in eating disorders because not only is it a personal challenge, but its seems as I read more on the topic that it is also a genetic factor as well. After reading our text by Badke he really struck a chord with me and I found myself asking the questions he posed in the text. I also found myself instead of just picking a source that looked credible I was going back and forth with the CRAAP chart and Badke text to compare and contrast. As well as picking apart the article to make sure it was  a good source for my research.
I used the CRAAP chart a lot when going through every source I found making sure that the ones I chose had 95-100 % of the qualities Badke and CRAAP wanted. Using this technique I was able to weed through the bad sources and find the diamond in rough sources.  For this topic I would like to further investigate into the genetic but also more of the environmental aspect of this topic. I am a huge believer in healthy environments mentally and physically so I would like to see how that plays a part in eating disorders.

First Blog Post Week 1 Assignment 2

Hello Readers,

My name is Jessica Kwong. I am 21 years old, born in Sacramento, CA, now residing happily on the central coast. My major is child psychology and this is my first semester at Brandman University. I hope to attain a bachelor's degree and master's degree. Then be able to apply my education as a  school psychologist and marriage/family therapist. Eventually it would be my dream to have a private practice in therapy. I chose these career goals ultimately because I enjoy working with people and children.

For the readings this week I enjoyed reading about the Digital Information fluency mode, it gave me a visual and verbal way to dissect information as well as it using it to my advantage. Being able to be efficient in reading is great tool not just in school, but in my life as well. I feel by using less electronic text and using the Digital Information Fluency Mode to my advantage I will have an enriched and successful information experience.
